Priaulx heads to Petit Le Mans
Andy Priaulx will be keeping busy in the WTCC break before Japan, as he competes this weekend at the Petit Le Mans to drive for BMW Rahal Letterman Racing.
This will be Priaulx’s second event in the American sportscar championship this year, after racing at the season opener at Sebring. The Petit Le Mans race is a 1,000 mile endurance event, and Priaulx has every chance of achieving victory in the GT category, sharing the No.90 BMW M3 GT2 with Joey Hand and former WTCC BMW driver Dirk Müller.
BMW took it’s first GT class win of the ALMS season two rounds ago at Road Atlanta, driven by Müller & Hand, and the BMW Rahal Letterman’s main goal this weekend is to clinch the teams’ championship.
The team are just one points behind Flying Lizard Motorsports; though neither of the BMW pairings can win the GT drivers championship, there’s still a good chance for either cars regular drivers’ pairings to get ahead of Gianmaria Bruni for second in the championship.
Priaulx took part in last year’s Petit Le Mans which was cut short after a torrential downpour four hours in to the race which was due to last ten.
“It’s great to be back at Petit Le Mans. It was so disappointing last year not to finish the race due to the adverse weather, but I hope this year we can not only finish, but finish with a great performance,” said Priaulx.
