Pernía wins Oberá feature race and extends lead

Leonel Pernía won the feature race at Ciudad de Oberá and extended the championship lead. Fellow Honda-driver José María López made it a Honda 1-2 with Ford-driver Norberto Fontana completing the top three.

“I want to thank Norberto and Emiliano, who apart form being great drivers, also showed great sportsmanship in this type of situation,” said Pernía after the race.

Bernardo Llaver had pole position, after winning the qualifying race, and held the lead in the first part of the race.

As the race neared the end, Pernía had closed up in to third, right behind his team mate López. With just ten laps remaining, Francisco Troncoso’s car was left stranded in a dangerous place on the tack after an incident, bringing the safety car out.

Perina had at this point been let past up in to second by his team mate, ensuring a interesting sprint to the finish between Pernía and leader Llaver.

The both made contact with seven laps remaining of the race, Pernía managed to get past as Llaver had to retire.

Mariano Altuna crossed the line as fourth with Emiliano Spataro fifth and Nestor Girolami making it four Petrobras Honda’s in the top six.

Pernía continues to hold the championship lead, now with 116 points, followed by Fontana with 104.5 points and Spataro and Altuna separated by just one point in third and fourth with 85 and 84 points respectively. López closed in on the top thanks to his results today and is fifth on 83 points.
