Wiechers sent to the back
Both cars from the Wiecher-Sport team have been sent to the back of the grid for accessing data from their car during the parc ferme period in qualifying.
Although a minor offence, the cars that don’t progress past Q1 are subject to parc ferme conditions whilst the top ten cars complete the qualifying session.
The Wiechers-Sport team were found to have downloaded data from the cars during this period, and as a result have had their times deleted.
The impact to the team is minimal however. The team’s regular driver Mehdi Bennani has struggled at Okayama, not helped with a mechanical problem preventing him from taking part in the first practice session.
The cars are from 23rd and 25th, to 26th and 27th as a result of their penalty, promoting the two Proteam cars of Nobuteru Taniguchi & Kevin Chen, as well as Henry Ho in the Sports & You BMW 320si.
