Chevrolet celebrating strong result in Japan
Chevrolet are elated with the results in Japan, with two podiums for Yvan Muller and a race win for Rob Huff, the team have closed in on both the drivers and manufacturers titles.
Only Andy Priaulx can stop Yvan Muller from winning his second World Touring Car Championship at Macau, but the British driver would have to win at least one of the races and finish no less than fourth in the other with Muller not scoring to be able to take the championship crown.
“One thing is sure: the weekend ended much better than it started!” said Yvan Muller.
“Today, we put together a very strong team effort and collected the fruits of the good work done. Starting from fourth row and ending the day with two podiums and more points than my direct rivals in the championship is very positive. But the job is not finished and we will have to be very cautious in Macau, which as everybody knows, is always a lottery.”
Despite the odds, Andy Priaulx is still going to Macau fighting despite the disappointing result at Okayama:
“It was very difficult as we didn’t have the pace in the first half of the race. It’s a shame. I thought it would be tough when I saw it was raining today. It is difficult to end the race because of my mistake. It’s not brilliant for the championship but never say never.”
Rob Huff took his second win of the season in race one, passing the the BMW Team RBM drivers in the first few laps of the race, robbing the BMWs of essential championship points.
“We are absolutely delighted with the results today,” said Huff.
“The boys in blue did extraordinary work. We wanted the rain, because we knew it was going to level all cars. It was not easy to guess the right set-up, as the rain only appeared today, but we started from last years’data and that was the right move to do.”
“In Race 1, after the start behind the safety-car, I was able to pass the BMWs and build a sufficient gap. In Race 2, we focused on protecting Yvan’s back.”
