Chevrolet continuing with appeal
Chevrolet have confirmed they are continuing with their appeal over the WTCC’s decision to allow BMW Team RBM to compete with both a weight reduction and a sequential gearbox at Okayama last weekend.
The manufacturer, which goes in to the season finale for the first time with the lead in both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championships, is hoping to have the matter resolved before the final round at Macau, Chevrolet Motorsport Manager Eric Nève confirmed to TouringCarTimes.
BMW’s Andy Priaulx is the only threat to Chevrolet’s challenge for the drivers championship, though the three-time WTCC champion would have to have his best result over a weekend since Japan 2009 in order to claim the title, in addition to troubles befalling Chevrolet driver Yvan Muller.
BMW were permitted to compete in Japan with a weight reduction of 30kg as well as fitting a 6-speed sequential shift gearbox to their 320si’s for the first time at Okayama, due to a loophole in the penalty ballast system.
