More testing of the 1.6 turbo for Huff
Rob Huff has got some miles in for the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6 turbo that will contest the 2011 World Touring Car Championship, testing alongside BTCC squad Motorbase at Brands Hatch this week.
Huff goes into the season finale at Macau with a mathematical chance of taking second place in the championship standings from his current position of fourth.
The new engine specification which will become the standard for the WTCC as well as the World Rally Championship (WRC) and Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) from next year.
Whilst Huff was on promotional duties in China recently, and Chevrolet’s other drivers Yvan Muller and Alain Menu were at the Gold Coast 600 round of the V8 Supercars championship, 2010 BTCC driver Alex MacDowall also completed some testing miles with the RML developed car and engine.
Chevrolet have now had several tests with the new 1.6 turbo, which first went on the dyno before Oschersleben, whereas BMW and SEAT are yet to test their new engine – with SEAT expected to use the 1.6 turbo being developed by sister marque Skoda for their IRC assault in 2011.
Also at Brands Hatch on Tuesday was BTCC squad Motorbase Performance, with Ben Collins getting some more miles in the team’s BMW 320si as well as the team’s Porsche Carrera Cup drivers George Richardson and Liam Griffin. Tim Bridgman also ran the car on Wednesday whilst WSR and Arena Motorsport arrived, with Arena testing their new NGTC engine.
