Muller fastest in red flag qualifying chaos at Macau
Yvan Muller was fastest in the first qualifying session at Macau, a session that was red flagged no less than four times due to crashes. The second qualifying session has been moved to tomorrow due the delay of the crashes.
Rob Huff, who topped all the previous sessions, made it a Chevrolet 1-2 by being 0.375 seconds behind his soon to be crowned champion of a team mate.
Tiago Monteiro moved up to third towards the end of the session ahead of Alain Menu and Norbert Michelisz.
Macau expert Darryl O’Young continued to impress by being sixth fastest and the leading independent driver. Gabriele Tarquini and Andy Priaulx were the two final drivers to make it in to top eight.
And Priaulx was one of the drivers crashing in the session. Tom Coronel started by crashing just five minutes in to the session, bringing the qualifying to a lengthy halt as the barriers were repaired.
Coronel was able to get back out, only to be faced with a second red flag as Priaulx and Masaki Kano crashed in the R-bend. Priaulx was able to limp back in to the pits on three wheels for repairs and later rejoin the session.
Kristian Poulsen and Sergio Hernández were the next two drivers to bring the red flag out for the third time in the session. Poulsen hit the barriers in the uphill section of the track while Hernández clipped the barriers at Maternity Bend.
The session was resumed with seven minutes left, only to be stopped for the fourth time a few minutes later as Coronel came to a halt with his SEAT Léon TDi at a dangerous spot of the track.
