Chevrolet celebrate double championship success

Yvan Muller and Chevrolet are celebrating success after Macau, with the Frenchman collecting his second championship title, and Chevrolet the drivers and manufacturers.

Yvan Muller had mathematically been confirmed as the champion before the race, and with a second place finish in race one, showed everyone he would have earned it on the track as well.

Muller won the championship 55 points ahead of Tarquini, the same margin he had over the Italian coming into the weekend.

Team-mate Rob Huff jumped ahead of Andy Priaulx in the standings for third place, tying on points with Tarquini, battling hard for the second place honour, but had lost too much time behind Augusto Farfus in the second race.

“It’s a great effort from all the drivers, all the team, the engineers and the mechanics as well” said Yvan Muller after the race.

“It’s fantastic to conquer the title in my first year with Chevrolet. It’s never easy to be competitive straight away with a new car and a new team, but integration into this wonderful team has been easy, as I received a lot of support from every member of the team.”

Chevrolet also won the manufacturers championship for the first time, with SEAT second and BMW third.

Chevrolet are the only current manufacturer to have fully committed to the 2011 season, with development of the new 1.6 turbo regulation engine well under way.

With Chevrolet RML’s success in the WTCC, this confirms a clean sweep of titles for the Wellingborough based team, which won the British Touring Car drivers title with Jason Plato this year and the LMP2 Le Mans Series with Tommy Erdos and Mike Newton.
