Basso on pole at Potrero de los Funes
Martín Basso has taken pole position for the final round of the 3M Argentinean TC2000 Championship in his Ford-YPF Focus ahead of Matías Rossi and Guillermo Ortelli.
Basso set the quickest time to secure his first pole position of 2010 and the third for the Berta Motorsport run Ford-YPF team this season.
Matías Rossi, in his final race for the Renault Lo Jack team qualified in second, with Renault bound Guillermo Ortelli third in the Chevrolet Elaion Vectra.
Two of the Toyota Team Argentina cars were next up, with Facundo Ardusso fourth and Francisco Troncoso fifth.
The session was interupted briefly as the Fiat Linea of
Emiliano Spataro was recovered after hitting the barrier.
Of the championship contenders, points leader Leonel Pernía has secured ninth on the grid, crucially ahead of Ford’s Norberto Fontana qualifying down in 12th.
Pernía has a slim 8.5 point lead over Fontana going into the final race of the season as Pernía battles for his first TC2000 championship, with rival Fontana fighting for his first title since 2002.
