New endurance series to be run alongside WTCC
A new endurance series, called European Production Series, has been formed to be run alongside six the of FIA World Touring Car Championship races in 2011. Behind the start of the series is WTCC-driver Jordi Gené and the organizers of the Spanish Endurance Championship.
The season is planned to be started during the WTCC weekend at Zolder in Belgium on the 24th of april 2011. The season runs over six race weekends, ending at Valencia in Spain on the 4th of september.
The series is divided in to four different classes with Solution F, Ginetta and SEAT Léon-cars in the highest D1 class, all the way down to D4 where Ford Fiestas and Peugeot 207’s are allowed.
The race weekend setup is planned to feature two 50 minute races, where two drivers can share one car, over two days. One longer race could be featured at some race weekends instead of two.
Appointed sponsors to the series includes Eurosport, Yokohama, that will supply tyres for the series, and Galfer.
