Petter Solberg eyes WTCC drive for 2011

Ex-World Rally Champion Petter Solberg is on the hunt for a drive in the FIA World Touring Car Championship next year.
“I know what I can do on the track, and that’s why I’m looking at the WTCC,” said Solberg to Autosport.

The Norwegian is hoping to test for one of the top WTCC teams in a near future.

“I am very interested in testing some cars to see what they’re like. I have tested Formula 1 and Le Mans cars and they went well,” said Solberg.

Solberg is currently without a drive ahead of the WRC 2011 season. Autosport reports that he has been offered a drive for Citroën, but is not able to find funds for it.

“At the moment it’s tough in the WRC, so I am exploring other possibilities and the biggest one of those is the WTCC,” said Solberg.

The Norwegian has been taking part in the WRC since 1998, clinched the world title in 2003 for Subaru but has not won a rally since 2005.
