Farfus joins Schubert Motorsport in Dubai 24 hours
Augusto Farfus is going to take part in the Dubai 24 hours for Schubert Motorsport. The Brazilian BMW-driver is going to replace the injured Patrick Söderlund behind the wheel of a BMW Z4 GT3.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to represent Schubert at the Dubai 24 Hours,” said Farfus to Motors TV.
Söderlund is unable to take part in the race due to a neck injury sustained last year in a crash at Zolder.
Farfus is going to join drivers Claudia Hurtgen, Tommy Milner and Edward Sandström in one of Schubert Motorsport’s two cars in the 24 hour race.
“We are pleased to have a worthy replacement in the form of Augusto Farfus, who is a top-class driver. The whole team is hungry for the first race of the year, and we are determined to get the season off to a good start in Dubai,” said team boss Stefan Wendle.
As BMW are pulling out as a factory team from the FIA World Touring Car Championship, where Farfus has been racing for the last six seasons, it means that Farfus is going to be short on racing this season.
“The break from racing is always difficult time for a driver, which makes this appearance even better, as it means I can return to action sooner. The BMW Z4 GT3 is a great car, the team is also a class outfit, and the driving line-up speaks for itself: it will definitely be a fantastic weekend,” said Farfus.
The Dubai 24 hour race 2011 takes place on the 13th to 15th on january.
