Brazilian organisers get three year deal with WTCC

The FIA World Touring Car Championship 2011 is going to start at Curitiba, Brazil, on the 20th of march, alongside the Brazilian racing series Copa Caixa Stock Car.
“After five years as a stand-alone event, WTCC is now facing an important development through this partnership with Vicar. The opportunity of sharing the event with the Copa Caixa Stock Car and the outstanding joint promotion set up by Vicar will greatly enhance the world championship’s popularity in Brazil,” said WTCC boss Marcello Lotti.

The plan was originally to hold the first WTCC race at Interlagos, something that has been cancelled due to construction work at the track as well as logistic issues.

WTCC has singed a three year deal with the promotor, Vicar Promoções Desportivas, of Copa Caixa Stock car series. Vicar Promoções Desportivas is going to organize the WTCC races in Brazil for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

“It’s very important for our company to become promoter of an event which is part of a World Championship. We believe that being part of the same race meeting will be a benefit for both series, the WTCC and the Copa Caixa Stock Car, as the Brazilian motorsport enthusiasts will be treated to the great show of two top-level categories racing in the same weekend,” reads a statement from Vicar.

The change back to Curitiba is still subjected to the approval of the FIA.
