34 cars entered for the opening round of TC2000
34 cars have been entered for the opening round of the 3M Argentinean TC2000 Championship at General Roca, with an impressive 22 of those manufacturer backed entries.
Next weekend will see the start of the 2011 season underway, and there will be another strong grid for the Argentinean touring car championship, which also has had a number of key driver moves during the off season.
Equipo Petrobras Honda have slimmed down to four cars, retaining Leonel Pernía who lost out on the title at the final round in 2010. Mariano Altuna and Nestor Girolami will stay with the team and will be joined by Nazareno Lopez in a fourth Civic.
The Ford-YPF team will again be led by 2010 champion Norberto Fontana, with Fabian Yannantuoni and Juan Manual Silva joining the team in the other two Focus Mk.IIs.
Mariano Werner & Bernardo Llaver stay with Toyota Team Argentina, with Ignacio Char joining the team from Fiat, and former champion Matías Rossi also added to the team’s line-up from Renault.
Equipo Official Chevrolet will start the year with their Vectra model before upgrading to the Cruze later, with Christian Ledesma being joined by newcomer Agustín Canapino.
Fiat, who showed strong improvement last season have bolstered their driver line-up, retaining their star driver Emiliano Spataro but adding two-times champion José María López, López’s brother Emilio, and three-times champion Gabriel Ponce De León, who leaves Ford after 12 years.
Renault LoJack will be the only team to switch cars as well from the start of the season, with the Sergio Rinland designed Renault Fluence for new drivers Guillermo Ortelli & Mauro Giollombardo.
The Peugeot Cobra Team keeps Juan Cruz Alvarez, and has signed up former independent Matías Munoz Marchesi and former Toyota driver Facundo Ardusso to race their 307s.
The remaining 12 cars are independent entries, with Renault now supporting four of these, two with the new Fluence and two with the previous Mégane model.
Independent team JM Motorsports will again field their own Volkswagen Bora’s for Ruben Salerno & Gonzalo Fernandez, which means eight car makes in total will compete in the 2011 TC2000 season.
