Rob Huff: “fantastic feeling” to start with pole
Chevrolet’s Rob Huff is delighted to have grabbed the first pole position of the year in Brazil.
The British driver grabbed his sixth career pole in the World Touring Car Championship, setting a record time at the circuit in the new 1.6 litre turbocharged Cruze, beating his own qualifying record at the circuit by 1.9 seconds.
“It’s a fantastic feeling to start the season with a pole!” said Huff.
“The car was simply brilliant and I was lucky to be able to put up a perfect lap. Q1 was a little bit more difficult, but all in all, I am very satisfied with my position for race 2 as well.”
The new qualifying format means Rob will start sixth, just behind occasional team-mate for the season Cacá Bueno in the second race tomorrow.
It wasn’t all celebration at Chevrolet, with Alain Menu unhappy to have missed out on a top ten qualifying position.
“Unfortunately, I found myself in the worst position, as I finished 11th in Q1,” said Menu.
“I hope that we can understand the reason why. Tomorrow, I will try to do my best to climb up through the field and take as many points as possible.”
Update:
After Barth’s exclusion from qualifying (see seperate story), Alain Menu has now been promoted to 10th for race one and will start from pole position in race two.
