Rob Huff on pole position at Zolder
Chevrolet driver Rob Huff has secured a 1-2 for Chevrolet at Zolder, with Alain Menu starting alongside on the first row for Round 2 of the World Touring Car Championship.
In the second qualifying segment, Huff’s first flying lap was enough to claim him pole position as Yvan Muller made a mistake in sector three. Muller was on another fast lap for his second run, but hit the kerbs too hard losing time, and the Frenchman backed off allowing Tarquini past who was in his slipstream.
Tarquini went on to jump up into second place with a lap of 1:38.723, but it was short lived, as Alain Menu came through with a 1:38.598 and took second place.
In race two, Fredy Barth will start from pole position courtesy of qualifying tenth in Q1. Barth will share the front row with the BMW 320 TC of Franz Engstler, with the top starting Chevrolet that of Rob Huff, who will start fifth.
Tom Coronel was just outside the Q2 bubble, running wide in the final corner, and will start both races from 11th position.
Michel Nykjaer was unable to make use of his practice potential, with an apparent suspension failure bringing out the red flag at the beginning of Q1. Javier Villa was also unable to take part in the session due to technical problems with his BMW 320 TC, and so they will both start last on the grid.
