Michelisz happy with first showing with BMW

Norbert Michelisz impressed to finish among the top independents’ runners in his first race weekend with the new BMW 320 TC.

Michelisz had qualified in the top ten after finding extra pace in his new turbocharged BMW run by Zengo Motorsport, and ran strongly to finish second in the Yokohama Independents’ Category in race one, being passed by Kristian Poulsen late in the race whilst fighting a power steering issue.

The Hungarian started from the back after the team opted out of Parc Ferme to repair his power steering problem, and he drove through to eighth place to be the top classified BMW driver.

“These were the hardest races of my life,” said Michelisz.

“Today I couldn’t pay a lot of attention to the behavior of the car; I could only aim for being able to keep the steering wheel in my hands because of the high vibration.”

“For Race 2 the guys repaired the power steering with a fantastic effort but at the beginning it was still difficult to turn the wheel. This was the maximum that we could extract from today but I’m very happy that we could save a few points both in the overall classifications and the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy.”
