Darryl O’Young voted best rookie of 2010
Darryl O’Young was voted by TouringCarTimes readers as the best rookie driver in Touring Car racing in 2010, and was delighted to receive his fan voted reward last weekend in Belgium, where he took his first independent win of 2011 with the new Cruze.
O’Young had beaten Norbert Michelisz by a fraction of a percent in the WTCC only heat, and went on to the final voting around against BTCC’s Alex MacDowall, DTM’s David Coulthard & STCC driver Andreas Ebbesson, and was voted top with 52% of the vote.
“It’s amazing, cos you never really think people are seeing your results,” said O’Young.
“Our results in the World Touring Cars last year must have really caught some eyes, and it’s an honour to win this, because I know TouringCarTimes has a lot of true race fans following the site, so to be voted for for this is great.”
Alex MacDowall was next up, driving in his first season for the Silverline Chevrolet team in the BTCC with 28%, well ahead of former Formula One driver David Coulthard, with 12% of the vote, and Ebbesson with 8%.
