Rob Huff fastest in Monza Free Practice 1

Championship leader Rob Huff set the pace in the first free practice session at Monza in the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T, ahead of local driver Gabriele Tarquini’s SEAT León TDI.

Huff’s best lap of 2:00.183 was just one-tenth of a second faster than Tarquini’s, with Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller third fastest in the 30 minute session.

Kristian Poulsen was top of the independents in fourth with the Liqui-Moly Team Engstler BMW 320 TC, whilst Poulsen’s team-mate Franz Engstler spun out early on and had to sit out the rest of the session. The German’s best time to that point was good enough for 11th.

22 cars took part in the session, with Turkish driver Ibrahim Okyay running in his normally aspirated 2.0 litre BMW 320si. Okyay was 6 seconds slower than Huff, but within a second of Swiss driver Urs Sonderegger’s Wiechers-Sport BMW 320 TC, and faster than the identical specification 320si of Fabio Fabiani by 2.1 seconds.

The team’s will take part in one more practice session before qualifying this afternoon.
