Huff leads damp warm-up at damp Monza
Rob Huff led in the warm-up session at a damp Monza circuit, crossing the line in the final moments of the session as the circuit was drying.
Huff’s best lap was a 2:05.351, just over six seconds down on his pole position lap from yesterday. Alain Menu was second fastest with Yvan Muller third to make it a Chevrolet 1-2-3 in the warm-up.
Several cars found the conditions tricky at first, many ‘opting’ to take the first corner escape road, including Rob Huff and Gabriele Tarquini. The latter only set one timed lap and decided to sit out the rest of the session, and so ended up 22nd on the timing sheets.
Michel Nykjaer was the best of the rest behind the Chevrolets. The Danish driver will start 14th for both of today’s races, but was only eight-tenths down on the Chevrolets in the warm-up session.
Tiago Monteiro was called to the stewards for setting his best lap by cutting the corner in sector three. Kristian Poulsen was reprimanded for a similar minor transgression in free practice yesterday.
The first race featuring the standing start is scheduled for 13:05 CET.
