Michelisz: “To fight for a podium”
Norbert Michelisz has high expectations for the two races in Monza. The Hungarian told TouringCarTimes:
“I’m very happy because I thought I’d be one second off Chevrolet’s pace, and would have been happy with some place between fifth and eighth. As soon as I put new tyres on, though, I realized it could have been even better.”
The Zengo Dension driver thinks he could have done more if he had a better slipstream in qualifying.
“I had Coronel’s slipstream, but in my first run the gap was too big,” said Michelisz.
“I just didn’t want anyone to make a mistake in front of me and force me to abort my lap. On my second flying lap I was even faster but Coronel slowed down in the middle of Ascari, I tried not to lift the throttle but I went off the track and lost time, so I couldn’t improve. Tom has apologized for the incident and so I have no problem with him.”
Michelisz is hoping for a dry track for today’s races.
“We never ran the car in wet conditions, so I hope the track will be dry. If it rains we will most likely fall back, the Seats will be faster than us as well because they know what to do in terms of setup if the track is wet.”
The Hungarian thinks BMW will emerge as the best car in the second half of the race.
“I did a long run during testing and the brakes and the tyres were still okay.” said Michelisz. “If I can stay with the Chevrolets, and maybe put enough pressure on them to make them use their tyres and brakes more than they should, then I think we have a good chance to fight with them. I think there is a realistic chance to fight for a podium”
Michelisz will start the first race from fourth on the grid.
