José María López on pole at San Juan
Fiat driver José María López has taken pole position at San Juan ahead of Christian Ledesma’s Chevrolet Cruze & championship leader Matías Rossi’s Toyota Corolla.
López’s best lap was a 1:12.996, just 12 thousandths of a second faster than Ledesma in the new Cruze in only its second race weekend.
Toyota Team Argentina pair Matías Rossi and Mariano Werner took the virtual second row of the grid. Rossi was also within a tenth of López’s fastest time.
Leoneo Pernía was the top qualifying Equipo Petrobras Honda driver in fifth, with Agustín Canapino in the second Chevrolet sixth fastest.
Juan Cruz Alvarez put the Peugeot 307 of the Peugeot Cobra Team in seventh, with Guido Falaschi the fastest of the Renaults in the independent Sportteam car, just one place ahead of the works Renault Lo-Jack driver Guillermo Ortelli.
Norberto Fontana was the fastest of the Ford-YPF drivers in tenth place.
The first sprint race heat takes place at 9:10 local time tomorrow with the second heat at 10:00.
The 34 lap feature race begins at 13:00 at San Juan, which returns to the 3M Argentinean TC 2000 Championship schedule after a one year hiatus.
