Michel Nykjær first to get new SEAT 1.6 turbo
Michel Nykjær is the first of SUNRED Engineering’s drivers to be confirmed to get to run the new 1.6 turbo engine at the WTCC races at Hungaroring this weekend.
“The car is better with the petrol engine as the diesel engine was heavy and thus harder on the front tyres,” said Nykjær.
The Dane was present during SUNRED’s test days in Spain last week.
“The test in Spain was positive. The new petrol engine is faster but we are still in the development phase,” said Nykjær.
While the new engine produces more power compared to the 2.0 turbo diesel engine, Nykjær is not expecting too much of a difference initially.
“It would be good if we could get an advantage this weekend already, but if we can continue on the same pace as we have had so far I would be pleased,” said Nykjær.
Another new thing for Nykjær this weekend is the Hungaroring circuit, a track the Dane never has never raced at before.
“I only know the track from the Formula One races I have seen on TV. But that is most likely the same for all of the other drivers. The track is quite twisty, so I think I can have some use of my experience from the smaller Danish tracks,” said Nykjær.
