Second DNF for Menu in two meetings
As at Monza, Alain Menu scored no points in one of the day’s races in Hungary after a coming together with Tom Coronel’s BMW in race two.
The Swiss-driver was in third position leading the trio of Chevrolet Cruzes behind Tom Coronel after the restart in a rain aborted race two, and soon made a pass on the ROAL Motorsport BMW 320 TC into second place, before the two made contact with Menu crashing out into retirement.
“At the restart it was going well, I went round the outside of Coronel through turn 2 and I was the inside for turn three, my exit speed was slightly slower than his but he just fired me off, which was a shame as Yvan and Rob have proved we could have had some good points again.”
Tom Coronel was briefly listed as under investigation for the incident, but no action was taken against the Dutch driver, who took his best result in two races.
“I had more speed on on the middle of the straight he started to pull into me on the straight,” said Coronel to TouringCarTimes.
“And he has to go to (the other) side to go (into the next) corner, but I had more speed in the run on the inside, and I didn’t hit on him on the back, I hit him here (indicating to the side of the car), so to be honest he did it to himself. I even went off throttle but it was too late he was off.”
Menu stays third in the championship, whilst Coronel’s fourth place finish moves him up to sixth in the standings.
