Jorg Müller & Augusto Farfus on class pole at Le Mans
Former World Touring Car Championship drivers Augusto Farfus and Jorg Müller, along with Dirk Werner have qualified on the GTE Pro class pole for the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans for Schnitzer BMW.
In BMW’s second consecutive entry in recent years into the historic endurance event, the new BMW M3 GT2 has claimed its first pole position with the Schnitzer Motorsport-run #55 car.
The team’s #56 car, driven by three-times WTCC Champion Andy Priaulx as well as 2005 WTCC championship runner-up Dirk Müller and Joey Hand qualified third in class, despite a heavy crash in the second qualifying session for Priaulx as he spun off on gravel which had been left on the circuit.
Current SUNRED WTCC racer Tiago Monteiro in the Oak Racing Pescarolo, driving along with Guillaume Moreau & Pierre Ragues qualified 11th overall and in the LMP1 category. Monteiro had to pull off the circuit when his lights failed during the night time qualifying session at Arnage.
RML, which run the Chevrolet teams in both the British & World Touring Car Championships qualified eighth in the LMP2 class and 23rd overall with their HPD ARX-01d for Mike Newton, Tommy Erdos and Ben Collins.
Former DTM driver Marcel Fässler qualified on the overall pole in the Audi R18 TDI along with André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer, with Audi securing 1st and 2nd on the grid for the 79th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
