Maximum weight for Chevrolet, BMW and SUNRED

The bulk of the field will carry 40 kilograms of ballast next weekend after the FIA’s latest calculation of compensation weights for Rounds 9 & 10 in the Czech Republic.

The FIA has confirmed (as predicted earlier) that the times from race two at Hungary won’t be used due to the changing conditions.

The pace of the BMWs over the last three meetings however has been close enough to see them allocated with an increase in ballast since Hungary. With the average lap time of the top BMWs just 0.3 seconds down on the top Chevrolet Cruzes, all BMW 320 TCs will now run with 40kg on top of their base weight, an increase on the 10kg they carried at the Hungaroring.

The SEAT León TDI’s times were within 0.5 of a second of the Cruze, and so will now run with an additional 20kg instead of no ballast. This will only affect Aleksei Dudukalo, as Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro will also switch to the SUNRED 1.6T engine from Brno.

All drivers in the SUNRED León 1.6T will have to run with maximum ballast as a new model entry until the weights are recalculated for Porto.

The Polestar Racing Volvo C30 of Robert Dahlgren and the Proteam Racing BMW 320si of Fabio Fabiani will run at the minimum possible of -20kg at Brno.
