Yvan Muller takes pole position at Brno
Yvan Muller has stormed to pole position in the Czech Republic, leading a Chevrolet 1-2 with Rob Huff in second. Tom Coronel splits the Chevrolets with third in his BMW.
Yvan Muller pulled out the best lap of the day on his first flying run in the second segment of qualifying, producing a lap of 2:08.884 to break Alex Zanardi’s qualifying lap record set in 2008.
Rob Huff settled into second place behind his team-mate with just one run.
Alain Menu aborted his first run and pitted for new tyres, but couldn’t match the pace of his team-mates nor even get ahead of Tom Coronel, who qualified third in his ROAL Motorsport BMW 320 TC at a notoriously BMW favouring circuit.
Norbert Michelisz was the top qualifying independent in fifth place behind Menu, with Robert Dahlgren sixth in the Volvo Polestar Racing C30.
Dahlgren was also fastest in the first qualifying session and so will line-up tenth on the grid (provisionally) for race two, whilst Muller’s and Huff’s quick laps in that session mean they will start eight and ninth respectively, with Alain Menu sixth.
Franz Engstler will head the field for race two with Tom Coronel sharing the front-row, with Gabriele Tarquini and Darryl O’Young on row two.
