Darryl O’Young understeered to strong seventh place
Darryl O’Young had a busy race one at Brno, fighting off a horde of attacking cars behind him to finish second in the independents’ trophy classification, but was bumped out of race two.
The Bamboo Engineering driver had a busy race one, keeping Michel Nykjaer and then Norbert Michelisz at bay.
“It was a tough race, as we obviously missed something on the set-up as we were getting massive understeer on the car,” said O’Young to TouringCarTimes.
“From mid-race on it was a fight the whole time. We didn’t have the pace to keep that position, but had to do everything we could to try to keep the BMWs behind and Nykjaer in the SEAT, it was a clean fight between everyone.”
“I ran wide slightly and Dahlgren made a good move to get past me but I didn’t make any more mistakes after that, and could hold the position.”
In race two, O’Young’s race ended early with the Hong Kong driver knocked into the gravel by Norbert Michelisz, who had fought so hard with him in the first race for seventh.
“In the second race, Norbert (Michelisz) was fighting behind me with the Volvo, and he hit me off into the gravel. He came to apologise, it’s racing but at the end of the day I get no points,” said O’Young.
Michelisz was hit with a 30 second drive-though penalty for the incident, which dropped him to eighth in the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy classification and also with a 10-place grid drop, suspended for three races for the incident.
