Dahlgren: “The others should be worried”

Volvo Polestar Racing and Robert Dahlgren ran with their newly developed 1.6 turbo engine at Brno last weekend, scoring their best ever finish with sixth in the first race.
“The new engine worked great. The others should be worried,” said Dahlgren to TouringCarTimes.

While being off pace compared to the Chevrolets on the overall lap at Brno, there seemed to be no lack of straight line speed of the Volvo C30 1.6T.
“We were fastest in two out of three speed traps. There is no doubt that the engine is powerful, the guys at the engine department has done a great job,” said Dahlgren.

There is still a lot of work to do for the team as the original plan for the engine development was set to be ready in 2012. 18 months of development was reduced to 6 months.
“We still got a lot of work to do, we drove almost as many kilometers at Brno as we have done in total with the new engine before the race weekend. We need to work on the drivability and adjusting the chassis to the engine,” said Dahlgren.

Next up for Dahlgren and WTCC is Porto, a street circuit in Portugal.
“I have never seen the track before, but that goes for almost all of the tracks this year, so there is nothing different in our preparations compared to the other tracks. But our performance with the new engine at Brno, despite our limited testing, really boost our confidence for the rest of the season,” said Dahlgren.
