Wiechers-Sport confirm D’Aste return

The German Wiechers-Sport team have confirmed Stefano D’Aste will return to the team from Porto, with a special ‘top driver’ joining the team at Donington Park.

Just one day after announcing that Urs Sonderegger will be leaving the team on amicable terms, the Nienburg-based team have now officially confirmed that Italian driver Stefano D’Aste will be returning to the team for a third time.

D’Aste drove for the team in 2007, when he won the WTCC independents’ title, and then again in 2009, alternating with the Italian Proteam Motorsport team in the in-between years.

Last year D’Aste was in contention for the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy, before leaving Proteam prior to the season finale at Macau.

D’Aste is currently competing in the GT4 European Cup series with Lotus, and currently leads the championship for Scuderia Giudici. Because of his commitments to the series, D’Aste will miss the race in the UK at Donington Park on July 17th, when he’ll be racing at Zolder for GT4, but Team Manager Dominik Greiner confirms the team will be there with another ‘top’ driver.

D’Aste will have no oppurtunity to test the new 1.6 litre turbo-engine before the race weekend at Porto, meaning the 37-year-old’s first opportunity to drive the car will be the 30-minute test session on Friday.
