Rob Huff fastest in first test session at Porto
World Touring Car Championship leader Rob Huff was fastest in the Friday test session at the Porto street track in Portugal in a red flag shorted session.
The Chevrolets were quick to set the pace, with Huff, Yvan Muller and Alain Menu swapping times at the front, but in the end Huff ended up fastest setting a lap of 2:09.026 around the newly revised circuit ahead of Alain Menu and Yvan Muller.
Norbert Michelisz was the leading Yokohama Independents’ Trophy driver in fourth, but only just. The BMW driver was just two-tenths of a second faster than Stefano D’Aste, who made an impressive return to the WTCC and with his first session with the BMW 320 TC to finish in fifth.
Pepe Oriola was the fastest of the SR León’s in eighth place, just ahead of Robert Dahlgren’s Volvo, which stopped on circuit late in the session bringing out the red flag.
There was trouble for Gabriele Tarquini, with the Italian only completing four installation laps with his SR León 1.6T and no competitive time.
The next session is Free Practice 1 tomorrow at 9:00 local time.
