Rob Huff dominates Free Practice 2, faster by a second
Chevrolet driver Rob Huff was faster by over a full second from his team-mate Yvan Muller in Free Practice 2, with Gabriele Tarquini third in his SUNRED León 1.6T.
The final practice session saw the leading cars swap several times, suddenly it looked promising for SUNRED when Gabriele Tarquini jumped to the top of the timesheets with a time just off of that of Alain Menu in the morning, but then Yvan Muller went three-tenths of a second quicker.
No one could match Huff’s best lap however. The Briton blitzed the timesheets, going fastest with a lap of 2:05.719 in the Chevrolet Cruze.
The top BMW was that of Tom Coronel, who was fourth fastest just ahead of Tiago Monteiro’s SR León 1.6T.
The fastest independent driver was Franz Engstler. The German had a scare early in the session when he performed a full 360 degree pirouette, but made no contact with the walls or barriers and continued.
There were however a few scrapes with the wall as the drivers began to push harder, with Norbert Michelisz damaging the rear of his Zengö Motorsport BMW 320 TC and developing a puncture, ending his session early.
Many drivers were also warned for cutting the chicanes and not respecting the track limits.
The third RML Chevrolet Cruze of Alain Menu was just outside the top ten in 11th place, notably 1.5 seconds slower than he was in the first session.
