Javier Villa denies links to HRT F1 seat

Proteam Racing’s Javier Villa has been linked to a return to single seater racing with the Hispania Racing Team in Formula 1 following the team’s recent change of ownership.

The 23-year-old Spaniard made the move from single seaters to touring cars this year, joining Italian team Proteam Racing and currently sits third in the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy and has finished on the podium in a season which is being dominated by the manufacturer backed RML-run Chevrolet team.

Thesen Capital, which now own the Spanish-titled, but essentially German based Formula 1 team has told Spanish motorsport newspaper AS that it is working on plans for 2012, which may include Spanish driving talent such as Javier Villa and Carlos Sainz Jr.

The Asturian has quickly distanced himself from any immediate speculation, stating on his Twitter account:
“With regards to the news published today, I must say we are very happy with our current program with the WTCC BMW. Obviously I’d love to be the first Spanish driver at Hispania Formula 1…but it’s too soon to say what could happen.”
