AmD Milltek Racing confirm Martin Byford

British Touring Car Championship team AmD Milltek Racing have confirmed that former Clio Cup & SEAT Cupra driver Martin Byford will drive for the team in the remaining five meetings of the championship.

Byford effectively replaces Tom Onslow-Cole, with the New Malden-driver having returned to Arena Motorsport for the fifth event of the season last month at Croft. Team owner Shaun Hollamby stepped in to fill in before making the decision to hire a new charge for the remainder of the season.

The 39-year-old Byford from Colchester will make his BTCC debut with AmD Milltek Racing, after several years competing in the BTCC supporting categories, including winning the Elf Renault Clio Cup in 2007.

The team compete with a modified ex-Baltic Touring Car Volkswagen Golf Mk.V with a Lehmann developed 2.0 litre turbocharged engine built to the BTCC’s new Next Generation Touring Car specifications.

AmD Milltek Racing currently sit eighth in the BTCC independent teams’ classification, and tenth in the overall standings with nine points scored by Onslow-Cole at Donington Park and Thruxton.

Byford will make his 2011 debut at the new configuration ‘300’ track at Snetterton on August 6th-7th.
