Ash Sutton charges to fourth win of the season

Ash Sutton produced another sublime drive in the British Touring Car Championship to win race two at Snetterton and extend his advantage at the top of the standings.

After going from the back of the grid to tenth in race one, the Alliance Racing driver delivered yet another overtaking masterclass to scythe his way to a fourth win of the campaign.

Sutton had a relatively low key start to the contest as he only picked up a handful of positions whilst up ahead, reigning champion Tom Ingram made the most of his medium tyres to wrestle the lead from race one winner Charles Rainford.

Ingram would pull clear of the chasing pack early doors while Dan Cammish applied pressure to the BMW duo of Rainford and Daryl De Leon. Cammish would find a way past but it was Sutton that everyone was watching as he chased down leaders, with Ricky Collard in tow.

De Leon was first to be dispatched as Sutton used his superior TOCA Turbo Boost allocation to streak past down the pit straight and just a few corners later the four-time champion was past Cammish.

Sutton’s charge continued as he got the better of Rainford and that then left the Hyundai of Ingram. Closing up to the EXCELR8 driver within a lap, the front-wheel-drive ace got the better of his arch rival when he out-braked himself into Wilson.

Dropping a handful of positions as Sutton marched into the distance, further problems would arise for Ingram a couple of laps later as he pulled to the side of the track with an apparent mechanical issue.

Back at the front, Sutton took the chequered flag by more than six seconds whilst Collard and Tom Chilton finished second and third respectively. After the race, Sutton was hit with a five-second penalty for gaining an unfair advantage however kept the win.

Cammish cruised to fourth ahead of the Plato Racing Mercedes’ of Adam Morgan and Dan Rowbottom. Completing the top ten was three-time title winner Gordon Shedden, Rainford, Chris Smiley and De Leon.

The weekend’s third and final race at Snetterton is scheduled to begin at 17:20.
