Dahlgren: “We’ll bring a show tomorrow”
Robert Dahlgren will start 19th in both races tomorrow after a disaster in qualifying saw him leave the circuit at McLean’s on his flying run, but promises plenty of action in tomorrow’s races.
The Polestar Racing Volvo was second fastest in the dry test session on Friday, and was fourth in both of the free practice sessions, but a tactical qualifying strategy backfired, putting the Volvo C30 on the final row of the grid.
“We put everything on one card and it didn’t work basically,” said Dahlgren to TouringCarTimes.
“With hindsight, we could have gone (out on to the track) earlier but we didn’t know the speed we needed, so we put everything on one card and thought we’d go for one lap because it was drying all the time. I came up to Turn 7 and it was just simply wetter than I thought and I went off, and that was the only shot I had.”
Dahlgren believes the pace of the C30, now running at a minimum weight of 1,133kg, should help him to work his way up at a circuit where he knows overtaking is possible.
“The promotor should give us money for the show we’ll bring tomorrow because we’ll definitely overtake people I can promise you that.”
“I honestly think we could have had a chance to stop (Chevrolet), maybe not win, but on the podium and match them over the weekend,” said Dahlgren, reflecting on the qualifying error. On where the Swede reckons he’ll end up tomorrow, “At least top ten.”
