Huff leads close second practice in the rain
Rob Huff lead the pack in the final practice session ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying at a wet Donington Park, with SUNRED and Volvo noticably closer to Chevrolet.
Rob Huff led the leaderboard for almost the entire session, but his closest competitors changed constantly throughout. Yvan Muller and the SUNRED drivers swapped the closest spot to the championship leader, with Gabriele Tarquini ending up second quickest less than a tenth of a second down on Huff.
Several drivers made short excursions off the track as they attempted to master the Leicestershire circuit in the wet. Most notably the BMW drivers were suffering, with Kristian Poulsen and Tom Coronel driving through the gravel traps on a couple of occassions.
Norbert Michelisz went out of the session half way through in the Zengö Motorsport BMW 320 TC at the Old Hairpin and was trapped in the gravel trap, missing the rest of the session.
Colin Turkington ended up 19th after setting just a handful of laps, joining the session with just eight minutes to go suffering with a vibration on his Wiechers-Sport BMW 320 TC.
Fabio Fabiani set no time in the normally aspirated BMW 320si, as the Proteam racer was suffering with a differential problem.
Robert Dahlgren was fourth fastest in the Volvo, with Pepe Oriola again the fastest independent entrant in fifth, leading his two SUNRED team-mates Fredy Barth and Michel Nykjaer.
Javier Villa, who will drop five places from his qualifying position for the first race due to a penalty carried over from Porto, was the fastest BMW driver in tenth.
