Yvan Muller secures pole at Donington Park

Yvan Muller secured the head of a Chevrolet 1-2-3 at Donington Park, but the team will have it all to do in race two starting from 8th, 9th and 10th – whilst Colin Turkington secures the independents’ pole on his return.

In a frantic first part of the qualifying session, where a drying circuit was hit by a sudden short downpour at the start, the times kept changing, with all three Chevrolets outside of the top ten with a few minutes to go.

In the end, tactical qualifying went out the window with the times tumbling, and Chevrolet went all out to ensure they got into Q2, with Muller, Huff and Menu going first, second and third, which will put them eighth, ninth and tenth for race two.

Tom Coronel ended up tenth and will therefore provisionally start on pole position for race two, with Michel Nykjaer on the front row.

The three Chevrolets repeated the feat in the second qualifying session, with Muller, Huff and Menu securing the top three positions for the first race.

Tiago Monteiro was closest to the Chevrolets in fourth, with Colin Turkington the fastest BMW in fifth and securing the independents’ class pole position.

Javier Villa qualified ninth, but will drop five places on the grid after a penalty from Porto.
