Weight changes for three cars at Oschersleben
Three car models get changes in compensation ballast for the next round of the World Touring Car Championship at Oschersleben in Germany, with weight increases for SUNRED and Volvo and a decrease for BMW.
The Championship dominating Chevrolet team keeps its maximum 40kg of compensation weight, as does its independent sibling Bamboo Engineering.
BMW, which have always faired well at the circuit in the former East Germany, have dropped 20kg in ballast and are now running at a lighter base weight than the Chevrolet Cruzes at 1,170kg, thanks in part to the dropping of the lap times from Hungary for the calculation for this round.
SUNRED’s run of quick times in recent events, especially since the loss of their maximum compensation ballast for an in-season change to the 1.6 turbo, has seen them get their base weight increased to 1,150kg, as opposed to running 20kg lighter.
Volvo, though the slowest turbo car in qualifying at Donington Park due to a qualifying error, doesn’t gain from that faux pas as the FIA has decided not to use the session’s times due to the changeable weather conditions. The Polestar Racing team will now need to add another 10kg of ballast to the car for Oschersleben.
The two BMW 320sis will be the lightest cars on the grid. Those are Borusan Otomotiv entry of Ibrahim Okyay and the Proteam Racing car of Fabio Fabiani.
