Muller and Dahlgren share front row in Germany

Yvan Muller has taken pole position at Oschersleben, but for the first time this year the other car on the front row isn’t another Chevrolet, but the Volvo of Robert Dahlgren.

After the qualifying error at Donington Park, there was no stopping the Polestar Racing driver getting into the second qualifying session this time. The Swede went out and set the best lap in Q1 to ensure he was through to the second session, though he will therefore start tenth for the second race.

The Chevrolets played the strategic game, waiting to go out late and then manouvre themselves into the best position possible for race two’s reversed grid.

Yvan Muller was initially the slowest of the three Chevrolets, but found himself outside the top ten as the times continued to tumble. On his final run, Muller went second fastest, ensuring that row five in race two will be the same as row one for race one, with Muller and Dahlgren starting next to each other.

In Q2, the battle was between the Chevrolets and the lone Volvo of Robert Dahlgren, with Dahlhren’s first run less than a tenth shy of Muller’s first flying lap.

On their second run, Yvan Muller broke under 1:34 for the first time this weekend, claiming pole by over half a second. Rob Huff’s second run briefly put him up to second but he was immediately surpassed by Dahlgren’s Volvo.

Gabriele Tarquini will line up fourth with Tom Coronel fifth and Alain Menu sixth in the third Chevrolet.

Norbert Michelisz was the top qualifying independent in seventh, and will start third for race two with the reversed grid. The Hungarian was held up coming into the final corner as he caught a train of cars about to start their flying laps.

For the reversed grid for race two, local driver Franz Engstler will start from provisional pole with Tiago Monteiro alongside, and Alain Menu the best placed Chevrolet in fifth.

The first race takes place at 11:20 CET tomorrow.
