Volvo gets slight weight increase for Valencia
The only change in the compensation weights from Oschersleben for next weekend’s round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship is a 10kg increase for the Volvo Polestar Racing team, which brings them into line with SUNRED and BMW.
With the quickest car all season, the Chevrolet Cruze will continue to carry 40kg of compensation ballast for the final round of the European leg of this year’s championship. This additional weight will be carried by by Rob Huff, Yvan Muller and Alain Menu in the works RML-run Cruzes as well as the independent Bamboo Engineering’s driver pairing of Darryl O’Young and Yukinori Taniguchi.
The average lap time difference to the Chevrolet of the trio of the SR León 1.6T, the BMW 320 TC and the Volvo C30 in qualifying and the races over the last three rounds at Porto, Donington Park and Oschersleben has been 0.7 seconds. As a result, all three of these models will run at neutral weight (0kg of ballast added) in Spain, which is 10kg higher than the Volvo ran with in Germany when Robert Dahlgren qualified on the front row.
The BMW 320si, which will be represented by just Fabio Fabiani for Proteam Racing, will continue to carry the minimum amount of ballast on account of being 5.1 seconds off the pace in the only normally aspirated car in the field.
