Valencia pole position goes to Yvan Muller
Yvan Muller has taken pole position for the first race tomorrow at Valencia, with championship leader Rob Huff right behind in second, whilst Gabriele Tarquini secures third on the grid, breaking the Chevy 1-2-3s for the first time today.
Yvan Muller’s second run in Q2 took broke the Valencia circuit’s lap record, and was almost half a second quicker than team-mate Rob Huff.
Gabriele Tarquini was fastest in the first part of qualifying, and therefore provisionally will start tenth on the reversed grid for the second race, but was third quickest in Q2, just ahead of Portuguese team-mate Tiago Monteiro.
Robert Dahlgren struggled in the first part of qualifying, with the Volvo C30 only setting the 17th fastest time, which is where the Swedish driver will have to start for both races tomorrow.
Tom Coronel was fifth fastest in Q2, and ninth fastest in Q1, which puts the ROAL Motorsport BMW driver on the front row for the second race, behind Franz Engstler. Engstler will again start from the race two pole as he did last time out at Oschersleben, where he took his first WTCC victory.
Norbert Michelisz took the independents’ class pole with seventh, and picks up the extra point in the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy as a result.
The first 13 lap race takes place at 13:35 CET tomorrow.
