André Couto back at SUNRED for Macau

Macanese driver André Couto will be back at Macau for his seventh attempt at the race at the end of November as part of the FIA World Touring Car Championship for SUNRED Engineering.

The 34-year-old’s best result at the track in the WTCC was with SEAT Sport back in 2006, finishing in seventh place in the second race.

In 2009, Couto famously collided with a stationary Franz Engstler in the final stages of the race bringing out the red flag which stopped the race early and gave Gabriele Tarquini his first WTCC title, beating then SEAT team-mate Yvan Muller.

Couto’s run last year, replacing Jordi Gené at SUNRED, lasted just one corner as he was caught up in an accident with Andy Priaulx at the start and was out on the spot, with the team unable to repair the damage to his car for the second race.

Couto was victorious at the track back in 2000 whilst racing in the Formula 3 category. The Macanese-driver will pilot a SUNRED León 1.6T for this year’s event.
