Change of venue for WTCC Race of China

The WTCC will switch from the Guangdong International Circuit to Shanghai in a last minute change on November 6th.

The series is due to make its debut on mainland China for the first time this year in an expanded Asian calendar. The event will still take place along with the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC), which will also be moving to the new venue, with the reasons as yet undisclosed.

“After everything had been arranged for the event at the Guangdong International Circuit, a couple of weeks ago we were told by the promoter of the China Touring Car Championship that it was not possible to carry on with the event as scheduled,” said WTCC Promotor Marcello Lotti.

“For the time being, we are unable to share further details about the reasons for the cancellation. However we wish to thank the CTCC promoter for having managed to salvage the event by moving it to Shanghai.”

The calendar for next season released today also names Shanghai as the venue for next year’s round on November 6th 2012.
