Double glory for Michel Nykjær in Japan

The Japanese WTCC races proved successful for Danish independent Michel Nykjær. The Dane secured the Yokohama Trophy victory in both races as well as his first ever overall podium finish.
“It s great to show that I can deliver top results. The car was awesome and I was fastest privateer,” said Nykjær.

Nykjær slipped past Yvan Muller in the first race to secure third, just four seconds from race winner Alain Menu.
“Yvan made a mistake, something Rob Huff and I used to get past. I had Yvan right behind me after that, but I was able to stay ahead. It is not every day that you are able to beat a world champion,” said Nykjær.

The second race saw Nykjær under hard pressure from fellow privateer driver Colin Turkington for the independents’ victory.
“I pushed me around, but I decided to keep him behind no matter that he isn’t part of the overall fight for the championship. And he didn’t get past either,” said Nykjær.

Nykjær is third in the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy after Japan on 96 points, 15 points behind points leader and fellow Dane – Kristian Poulsen.
