Rob Huff unhappy with Tarquini after incident
Chevrolet’s Rob Huff was unhappy with 2009 Champion Gabriele Tarquini after an incident on the first lap of race two, which sent the Chevrolet driver off the circuit and down the order.
The Briton had lost position to Tarquini at the start as the 49-year-old Italian had a great getaway at the line in his SUNRED León 1.6T, but didn’t have the pace of the works Chevrolets, with all six of the Leóns struggling for pace all weekend.
Huff tried to pass Tarquini on the opening lap, but was forced wide at Turn 7, dropping to fourth damaging the undertray on his Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T.The British driver was then stuck behind Tarquini for the remainder of the race, finishing third whilst title rival Yvan Muller went on to take his eighth win of the season.
“I went for a move on Gabriele, very similar to the way Yvan (Muller) got past him but he seemed to make it a lot easier for Yvan and pretty much drove me off the track,” said Huff to Eurosport. “Which is a shame really because when someone like Gabriele is not right in the front of the Championship fight, unfortunately those sort of things can sometimes decide the Championship.”
Huff now trails Muller by 20 points, and is still chasing his first victory since his sixth win of the season at Porto in July.
