Muller: “I could never have dreamt of the outcome”
Yvan Muller turned around what looked like a potentially bad weekend at Shanghai, to victory in the second race and an extended points lead.
“What a day! After the bad qualifying session I had, I could never dream of such an outcome,” said Muller.
The Frenchman qualified seventh, but managed to climb three places in the first race.
“This is racing as I like it and today, Louis Chevrolet’s motto, “Never give up”, really applied to me! Race 1 had already been good, as I managed to take fourth just behind Rob, thus limiting the damage, but Race 2 was incredible,” said Muller.
Race two saw Muller fighting his way from fourth on the grid to claim the lead early on from Gabriele Tarquini and pulled up a lead of over ten seconds.
“I knew the start was going to be lively and I chose to stay behind Tarquini, knowing he would open the way, and that was the right choice. Once I passed him too, everything was quite easy,” said Muller.
The reigning champion now heads the championship with 20 points over team mate and main title rival Rob Huff ahead of the championship final at Macau in two weeks.
