Yukinori Taniguchi out of WTCC finale at Macau

Yukinori Taniguchi is not going to take part in this weekend’s FIA World Touring Car Championship finale at Macau due to car damage sustained in the previous race at Shanghai.
“It’s obviously very disappointing for Yuke and the team, but unfortunately we just haven’t had enough time to repair the car,” said Bamboo Engienering Team Principal Richard Coleman.

Taniguchi crashed on the final lap of the first race at Shanghai two weeks ago, sustaining a lot of damage to his Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T.

As the cars were shipped to Macau straight after the race, the team were unable to repair the car ahead of this weekend’s races.
“Being on the other side of the world has made it logistically more difficult with a demanding freight schedule. If this had occurred at one of the European events, then we would have had the car repaired, no problem. It’s just unfortunate that this amount of damage has occurred between these events,” said Coleman.

The team will instead run just one car at Macau for Darryl O’Young.
“We’re still looking forward to a good weekend with Darryl and our new partners for Macau Gulf Marine. Darryl’s very confident around Macau as it’s a circuit that he’s very familiar with and he’s really focused on finishing the season with a strong performance after recent disappointments,” said Coleman.
