Rob Huff leads aborted Free Practice 2
Rob Huff was quickest in the second free practice session as Chevrolet continue to dominate at Macau, but the session was ended early after the SUNRED of Fredy Barth crashed out with five minutes to do, with the Swiss driver requiring medical assistance.
The circuit had dried out since the first practice session, which saw the teams setting their best times of the weekend, but Chevrolet still emerged with a two second advantage around the Macau circuit, with Rob Huff setting the best time of 2:23.268, just 0.032s ahead of Swiss team-mate Alain Menu.
Javier Villa damaged his Proteam Racing BMW 320 TC just over half way through the session, crawling to the pits with broken rear-right suspension.
With just 5:58 remaining, the session was red flagged after Fredy Barth crashed out at Faraway Hill. The car overheated and caught fire, with apparent damage to the front-right, but Barth was unable to get out of the car by himself. The marshals eventually got to the car and put out the fire, before the medical team saw to Barth’s extraction with the session not resuming.
Barth is reported as conscious and is just suffering from having inhaled fumes from the incident with no physical injuries. The Swiss driver has been sent to the local hospital for checks.
The next session is qualifying, which starts at 15:25 local time (7:25 GMT).
