Chevrolet complete 2011 pole position lock-out
Chevrolet have achieved a WTCC first with Rob Huff securing the final pole of the season at Macau, and completing a full season of pole positions for the US manufacturer.
The last time that Chevrolet didn’t start from pole position was in October 2010 at Okayama, when Andy Priaulx took pole for BMW Team RBM, though that pole was controversial as the BMWs were running with a new gearbox and lower weight which saw them excluded from the event.
From Huff’s pole at Macau last year to his repeat performance this weekend, Chevrolet have taken 13 consecutive pole positions in the World Touring Car Championship.
This season, Championship leader Yvan Muller has taken poles at Brno, Donington Park, Oschersleben and Valencia; Alain Menu at Budapest, Porto, Suzuka and Tianma and Rob Huff at Curitiba, Zolder, Monza and Macau – four apiece.
“Twelve poles in twelve rounds is a great achievement for the entire team and something unprecedented in the WTCC,” said Chevrolet Motorsport Manager Eric Nève.
“With Rob and Yvan sharing the front row and the battle for the title still open, I think
we are going to see two lively and exciting races on Sunday.”
